LIFT07: Collective Intelligence for the Entreprise by Lee Bryant
Lee Bryant of the social software consulting company Headshift in London spoke about "collective intelligence for the enterprise". He stated: we are wasting a substantial amount of brainpower of people working in organizations. He goes on to say that IT systems don't understand how we work, and they offer an insufficient diversity of inputs to stimulate intuitive decision-making. Social tools may represent an answer: these tools grow and get better and more useful as more people use them.
Medical Device Manufacturer Uses RSS
Submitted by matt on Wed, 2007-10-17 10:17.Have you considered RSS (Real Simple Syndication) as a means of getting your message out and staying "top of mind" within your stakeholder communities?
Medical device manufacturer Medtronic offers an RSS feed via both their public relations and investor relations departments. I found it interesting to note that the latter contains a description of RSS and how it use it, while the former simply offers the RSS symbol to click. Does this reflect a perceived difference in the relative Internet NG sophistication of the two audiences?
More Information about RSS
RSS is really more a standard format for data than a technology. The standard was developed with the following considerations:
First Steps with RSS
Submitted by matt on Thu, 2007-08-30 20:37.Most newer browsers now have an RSS reader built in. Test your browser by going to the NG home page. Scroll all the way to the bottom where you should see the RSS symbol
in the lower right.
Click on the RSS symbol and your browser's RSS reader will pick the latest posts from our site. If your browser does not automatically set up an RSS feed form the NG site, you may have to install an RSS reader into your browser.
Once you've set up your browser to receive the NG feed, try adding feeds from other favorite information sites.

Growing IP Issues for RSS
Submitted by matt on Thu, 2007-08-30 19:48.Before the days of RSS, businesses obtained news and data feeds from information syndicators like Bloomberg, YellowBrix, Market Watch, and others. The businesses paid for licenses to use this information and, in turn, the syndicators paid content creators for the right to aggregate and resell the information.
Now, RSS lets everyone grab and publish everything, with no licensing or usage agreements. This does raise an number on intellectual property questions and discussion of this issue is growing. For example, see http://rssdiary.marketingstudies.net/content/ripping_off_rss_feeds_rss_s...
